Just before summer, Dan Mayes had a
meeting of minds with Bryan McCarty. Their mission was simple; create a comic
book using a couple of Bryan’s ideas. Dan decided to bring on his buddy from
art school Alex Brown as an additional artist. Now the group had two artists
and an idea man, but they were missing a writer. Well as luck had it Alex’s
brother, Rick, fancied himself a writer. The four met for Mexican food and had
a great rapport. The ideas spilled out of their mouths and then were
transferred to paper. Several months later the group decided to start a studio
for writers and artists a like, Rabid Concepts Studios was born. This is who we
are.
Bryan McCarty is an avid comic book
reader and collector. He started reading Marvel Comics when they sold for 12
cents. In 2012, the fever escalated and now he pines to be a part of the ideas,
the writing and the publishing. Due to a chance encounter with Dan Mayes, Bryan
was able to bring a creative team together and Rabid Concepts Studios was born.
Dan is one of the creative forces
behind Rabid. He’s not only a sensational artist, but he has come up with
various ideas for stories. He went to college at Rocky Mountain College of Art
and Design. During his study at RMCAD he met Alex and the two became great
friends. Dan majored in illustration while attending RMCAD. After he was
approached by Bryan he brought together this ragtag team to produce comic
books. Dan is passionate about art and storytelling is really the heart of
Rabid Concept Studios.
Jon Alex Brown, also known as JAlex, would
use comics as a way to escape too far away worlds since childhood. It was between
the creased and dog-eared pages that JAlex was able to let his imagination run
wild. Comic books allowed JAlex and his older brother to connect despite a 6
year age gap. Creating a comic book has been a childhood dream and now with the
help of Bryan, Rick and Dan, he is able to live out his dream.
Rick Brown is the lead writer for
Rabid Concepts Studios. He has read comics since he was a wee-little boy. His
first comic was a reprint of “The Incredible Hulk” issue 181. This issue was
the first appearance of Wolverine and started an unhealthy obsession collecting
Wolverine comics for Rick. Over the years, his tastes have evolved and now he
reads all genres of comics. He is forever in debt to Dan Mayes as he presented
this amazing opportunity to work with two talented artists and an amazing idea
man in Bryan McCarty.
